Dong Ding oolong

Thee van Sander
DESCRIPTION

One of the better known varieties of oolong tea from Taiwan. Dong Ding is known for its slightly longer oxidation and especially roasting time than floral oolong. It is a very pleasant tea with wonderful aroma and flavor.

  • Taiwan, Nantou County
  • Ching Xin cultivar
  • 600-meter growing height
  • Natural farming
  • 40-50% oxidation and a medium roast
  • end of April/beginning of May picked

Originally, the Ching Xin cultivar is said to be from the Wuyi Mountains in China. A small number of plants were planted on the Dong Ding Mountains in Nantou County in central Taiwan. This turned out to be an excellent place to grow tea.

Today, Dong Ding is made in several places and its distinguishing feature is the slightly longer oxidation and especially roasting time. Dong Ding is frequently entered in competitions and the number of participants then runs into the thousands.

It gives a very pleasant tea for when you want something heavier than, say, the floral Bao Zhong and Four Seasons.
