Da Hong Pao is a delicious warming tea. The somewhat mature leaves are picked, wilted and partially oxidized. Da Hong Pao is a dark oolong which means the leaf is about 80% oxidized, a light oolong 20% - 30%. Da Hong Pao is traditionally dried over charcoal but in this case it is done electrically in an oven.
Da Hong Pao therefore has a character all its own, warm and rich, partly due to the mineral-rich mountain range where the plants grow.
Da Hong Pao is a legendary and one of the most famous teas from China, originating from the Wuyi Mountains in Fujian Province.
