A very nice black tea made by Charlie from the plants from which Anji Bai Cha is also made. Charlie with his father has been running a low and high mountain plantation specializing in Anji Bai Cha since 1999. Of this tea 90% stays in China and a little goes to Russia, other countries in Asia, the UK and now to the Netherlands!
This tea is from the high mountain plantation and has a nice black tea flavor. From April 2021. The high mountain plantation is located at about’900 meters altitude and the tea has been tested according to EU standards since 2017. Read more about Charlie on ‘Tsunami Charlie’s‘ company page.
The material this black tea is made from is the same as that of the Anji Bai Cha. The cultivar has buds and young leaves that are very light in color. The leaves produce less chlorophyll due to the cold conditions of the district, only in May when it gets warmer do you see the leaves turn greener. After pulling the tea leaf a few times you will see the leaves getting lighter and lighter.
Charlie's plantation
Charlie's father started 2 plantations in 1999. A high mountain of 13 ha at 900 meters altitude and a low mountain plantation of 5 ha. Anji tea is made on both but they differ greatly in quality and taste.
In between harvesting, people work on the plantation to clean up, do chores, fertilize the soil and remove weeds. The latter is done mechanically, his high mountain tea has been EU-compliant (Eurofins) for years.
