Tea in Motion
DESCRIPTION

Black tea frosted with long slender leaves and a silky smooth flavor

This tea grows on the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Tanzania is a tea producing country. What is grown there is CTC tea, which is used in blends for tea bags. Virtually no tea grew at the foot of Kilimanjaro. The tea garden started as an experimental community project, and is now producing beautiful specialty teas.

Coffee farmer Bente Luther-Medoc marveled at the fact that no tea was growing even though the climate is ideally suited for it. So 8 years ago she started her own tea garden. She started drying tea in a small food dryer and now has 5 permanent employees and 10 people on call who come to pick about once a week. Her tea garden produces about 100kg of dry tea (that's 400-450kg of tea leaves!).

That is not enough for export and therefore a project has been started with several small tea farmers in the Usambara Valley, whose tea is processed in a small factory near Kilimanjaro where about 1 ton of tea is produced to the standard of this specialty tea

This area is rich in great bio diversity. It is surrounded by the rainforest of the Amani Nature Reserve. The area has an excellent microclimate and is green all year round. The volcanic soil is fertile.
