This tea is characterized by dark brown leaves with golden tips.
A special tea from a beautiful tea garden high in the Himalayas. This tea is made by hand from the tender autumn leaves. With its long, twisted dark brown spicy tender leaves with golden tips, this is a real treat. The tea garden is located at 1600-2000 meters altitude, only 65 km from Darjeeling in India. The cold climate and a little less rain causes the plants to be stressed. This creates a complicated process of chemical reactions that gives this tea a great aroma and develops a wonderful flavor.
There are 236 people working at Jun Chiyabari. Of those, 80% are women. A group of women wearing headscarves sit together on the wooden floor in a circle. They examine the tea leaves that will be packed. Some of them are laughing, some of them are talking to each other as they work through. They work their way through the thousands of leaves to pick out those that are damaged or defective. This process needs practiced fingers, dexterity and concentration.
