Tea in Motion
DESCRIZIONE

Pu Er from ancient trees of Bulang Mountain. This is located in south east Mengahai, Xishuang-banna in southern Yunnan.

The indigenous people (Bulang minority) started planting tea trees here about 4,000 years ago (according to history books) and until now, tea production is still the main source of income for the local people.

They pick the tea by climbing the trees. Picking is often done with bud and 1 to 3 leaves. If the third leaf is still soft enough, it can be added. Picking is laborious and about 2 kilograms are usually picked per tree. It is said that each Bulang Dan Zhu cake is made from the picking of 1 tree.

Bu lang Shan (high mountain) raw Pu Er is described as intense. The tea trees are old. Trees still standing there today may be as old as 500 years or more!

These trees grow here naturally, from the seeds that fall.

Tea from old trees generally gives a deeper aftertaste and is more complex. The age of the trees is not the most important for quality, but certainly the art of the tea maker who searches the various batches of tea ij each other for the perfect composition in the cake

Bulang Mountain is right next to Myanmar, it is one of the first places where tea was grown.

The oldest tea tree found in Xishuangbanna in Bulang Shan is about 800-1000 years old. I visited it and saw it after a fun jungle trek :-)

This tea is still 'young' The cake was pressed in 2020
