The Ban Zhang Organic Puer Sheng (Raw) Tea 2018 is a product carefully selected by Tea Soul to offer an even more in-depth tasting experience and knowledge regarding the complex type of puer teas.
The gardens from which the leaves of this sheng are sourced are in the Ban Zhang area, located about 50 kilometers south of the city of Menghai. From this area in the far south of Yunnan, in Xishuangbanna Province, come many high-quality puer due to the area's excellent raw material and the large presence of skilled and experienced tea artisans.
The infusion of the 2018 Ban Zhang Organic Puer Sheng (Raw) Tea has a fairly rich flavor profile that already shows some signs of ripening due to the age of the product. The sweetness of this puer, in fact, does not have fruity sides but tends, rather, to suggest a more savory taste similar to that in rice or starchy foods.
In addition to this aspect, even on the vegetable side, the tea shows some somewhat more elaborate flavors such as a slight bitterness similar to that in artichokes and a mineral hint with a balsamic character in the aftertaste.
The cultivation of organic origin of this product has made it possible to preserve the flavors in the leaves as best as possible and without alteration and, therefore, to also ensure optimal puer ripening. For this reason, Ban Zhang Organic Tea is great for enthusiasts who want to try aging the tea at home and taste its development over time.
In addition to this raw puer in our offering you can also find organic cooked puer such as Ripe Refined Organic Puer Shu (cooked) Tea.
Location of origin
Ban Zhang, Menghai County - Yunnan, China
Production
After harvesting, the leaves of Ban Zhang 2018 Organic Puer Sheng (raw) Tea are left to wither in the sun for a certain amount of time depending on the producer before going through the "green killing" stage which is purportedly similar to that used to produce green teas.
The special feature, in this case, lies in not heating the leaves as much as is done for a green tea so that certain enzymes capable of modifying the flavors over time are preserved.
Once cooked, the leaves are allowed to rest overnight before concluding their sun-drying. At this stage, the product is called maocha and is ready to be (eventually) pressed in order to obtain the best conditions for transportation and aging.
To press the leaves they are passed through a strong jet of steam for a few seconds so that they are made soft externally and, subsequently, they are collected in a sock or sack that will give the product its shape, usually discoidal.
To ensure that this structure remains fixed over time the sack is left for hours under a stone or mechanical press while the leaves lose that residual moisture taken up by the steam in the previous step.
Infusion Method of Ban Zhang Organic Puer Sheng (Raw) Tea 2018
We strongly recommend infusing Ban Zhang Organic Puer Sheng (Raw) Tea 2018 in the traditional Chinese method (Gong Fu Cha) with a Gaiwan with a capacity of about 100 ml. By following this preparation, with 5.5 grams of leaves, multiple infusions can be made that are useful to best taste all the flavors of the tea.
After a quick rinse of the leaves with water at a temperature of 100°C, an initial infusion of 10 seconds can be made, and then, keeping the water at the same temperature, the product can be continued to be exploited by adding more to water and increasing the previous infusion time by about 5 seconds (10 - 15 - 20...).
For a more traditional preparation in the Western style, we recommend 3 grams of leaves (about 2 teaspoons) in a 150 ml cup with water at 100°C for an infusion time of one and a half minutes.
For a better tasting experience, we suggest that you strain the infusion as soon as the set steeping time is over. Our suggested infusion timings, however, can also be slightly modified to your liking to achieve a more or less intense taste.
We recommend storing in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
Benefits of Puer Sheng Tea (raw)
Puer Sheng Teas (raw) mainly have effects concerning the nervous system. In fact, thanks to their caffeine and amino acid content, they are able to give both a useful arousal to keep the mind awake and responsive, and lower the production of certain hormones that lead to a sense of stress.
The charge induced by Puer Sheng (Raw) Tea, moreover, manifests gradually in the body and demonstrates a longer duration of time than the effect that can be felt by taking Green Teas.
Finally, if you are particularly sensitive to caffeine, we urge you not to take more than two cups of Puer Sheng (Raw) Tea per day and perhaps try to take this beverage in the morning or early afternoon.
They are also very good for the body.
