The Material
Jianzhan (also known as Tenmoku pottery) has been used to make cups and tea ceremony accessories since the Song Dynasty. In China, people called it Jianzhan, in Japan Tenmoku pottery.Artist You Wen uses local iron-rich clay as the material to make glaze and body before firing it at 1300 degrees Celsius in a kiln. The rich iron content makes it possible to create a specific clay that is used for all traditionally consumed tea and alcohol accessories.
