DESCRIPTION
In hand-decorated porcelain, the figurines are three different representations of Fukurokuju.
The deity Fukurokuju
Fukurokuju (福禄寿) is one of the Seven Deities of Fortune (七福神 shichifukujin), one of the characters in Japanese mythology. It is the deity in charge of wisdom, happiness and long life. The other deities are Ebisu, Daikoku, Benzaiten, Bishamonten, Jurjin and Hotei. The term by which he is identified is derived from the combination of Fuku = Happiness, Roku = Wealth and ju< = long life.
He is depicted as a man with a high forehead, bald and with a long mustache, always carrying a staff. His companions are a turtle (symbol of long life) and a crane (symbol of wisdom).
