Meadowsweet - 20g

Strange name given it tends to grow in marshy ground not meadows till you realise it is a corruption of Mead o’ Sweet and yes it has been used in the past to flavour the demon drink. Herbalists think of Meadowsweet as a ‘friend to the stomach’. It was one of the first plants from which aspirin was extracted and then modified. Its family Spirea giving the pill its name. We now know that aspirin can cause stomach bleeds if used to often – Meadowsweet still has it is its natural form and has the opposite effect. The fresh flowers are a wonderful frothy experience and the tea carries that on perfectly. Traditionally used for long term digestive upsets and as a mild but safe painkiller.
