Bancha 番茶 (Ban = rough, rustic) is the second most drinkable Japanese green tea. Growing and processing is the same as for sencha, the difference is the later harvest.
A nice tea for beginners and people who don't want to worry too much about preparation. The mild but delicious taste will put you in a good mood. Undoubtedly an exceptional Bancha.
Until recently we did not import Bancha at all, the quality did not justify the 6000km long journey. This is now changing thanks to Tamiko Kinezuce - the bancha of her production is not only very pleasant to drink, but also easy to prepare and will provide 2-3 delicious infusions. The leaves from the autumn harvest are firmer, contain more catechins and less caffeine due to more exposure to the sun. This makes Bancha popular for evening drinking and for people sensitive to caffeine.
