Thee van Sander
DESCRIPTION

A sort of ‘Chinese Gyokuro’, this green tea. The moment you expect grassiness while drinking, the Enshi Yu Lu gives you a gentle round taste. This is no coincidence, this green tea is steamed! The technique of steaming has been used for hundreds of years for this tea in China, so it is not a copy of Japanese Gyokuro. During the Tang dynasty, most green tea was steamed.

  • harvested: April 2024
  • origin: Wuling Mountain, Enshi in western Hubei Province
  • growing altitude: 850 meters
  • cultivar: Enshi Qun Ti Zhong

Enshi Yu Lu is a tea that is not very common but it is a unique green tea because of its soft round taste. It is a type of "Chinese Gyokuro," the tea from Japan that is steamed and known for its full soft round flavor experience.

The tea bushes grow without the use of pesticides. A top and 2 leaves are picked. After steaming, the leaves are rolled by hand to give the elongated appearance and then briefly fried in a wok.

As shown in the photos, the plants grow among the mist. This is actually a kind of covering for the plant. In Japan it is done with cloths to make the Gyokuro but the principle is the same. The plant gets little sunlight and remains soft and a strong flavor.
